What is Juneteenth? Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It is a day to honor Black freedom, history, and resilience.
